Boycotting Israeli products is a powerful form of resistance against illegal occupation and exploitation. By refusing to buy Israeli produce—especially dates—we can ensure these products remain unsold, forcing stockists to reconsider their purchases. This financial pressure can be a crucial step toward holding Israeli companies accountable for their unethical practices.

Deceptive Labeling: How Israeli Companies Mislead Consumers

Recent investigations have uncovered how Israeli date producers manipulate labeling to disguise the true origin of their products. Mehadrin, Israel’s largest date exporter, supplies Offa Exotics, a UK-based company that falsely markets these dates as “Product of Palestine.” Following this exposure, Mehadrin removed evidence of this connection from its website, but archived records confirm the deception.

Hadiklaim, another major Israeli date exporter, has also been implicated in similar mislabeling tactics. A 2012 Al Jazeera documentary revealed an Israeli export manager admitting that dates from illegal settlements were falsely labeled as “Palestine-Jericho” to avoid consumer backlash. He acknowledged that clients often request changes to the stated country of origin, allowing these stolen goods to be sold under false pretenses.

This widespread mislabeling particularly targets Muslim consumers who avoid Israeli products, making it essential to verify the authenticity of Palestinian-labeled dates. Despite clear evidence of these fraudulent practices, UK and EU authorities continue to turn a blind eye, allowing the deception to persist.
