The Mission is an urgent and unflinching 2025 documentary following British-Iraqi nerve surgeon Dr. Mohammad Tahir as he embarks on his third humanitarian mission to Gaza. Filmed by two members of his medical team who smuggled phones into the territory to capture footage, the documentary immerses viewers in the raw reality of Gaza’s overwhelmed operating rooms in real time. Over the course of three missions totalling seven months, Dr. Tahir and his team performed nearly 1,200 procedures under relentless bombardment, saving the lives of Palestinian men, women, and children while bearing witness to Israel’s systematic targeting of healthcare facilities and medical personnel.

Produced by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mike Lerner and directed by the Gaza Collective, The Mission has been rejected by every major film festival — including Sheffield Doc Fest — and struggled to find mainstream distribution, a pattern that has become distressingly familiar for films that confront the reality of the Gaza genocide. It premiered at the Amman International Film Festival and sold out both its screenings at the London Palestine Film Festival. As Dr. Tahir urges his audiences: “Watch it and let your heart burn. Let that be your rocket fuel to go out and make the changes.” Available to rent and download via Journeyman Pictures.
