Hear a powerful first-hand account from Gaza. Our speaker, Dr. Mohammed Ashraf, shares a deeply personal journey that bridges generations — from childhood memories to frontline resilience.

This is not politics. It’s humanity.

Through lived experience and reflection, Dr. Ashraf will speak about:

  • Growing up under shadow and light – what everyday life in Gaza was really like through a child’s eyes.
  • Echoes of our parents and grandparents – how memories from before 1948 continue to shape every home and every heart.
  • Before the breaking point – the daily struggles from childhood to October 2023: survival, hope, and persistence.
  • Living through the unimaginable – what unfolded after October 7, and how doctors, families, and entire communities endured.
  • A call to act with humanity – how we, as people of every race and religion, can choose compassion and justice in a time that tests us all.

Open to All
Muslims and non-Muslims — men, women, and children — are warmly invited to attend, listen, learn, and reflect together.

This year, the period between approximately mid-February and mid-March is known to Muslims as the Islamic month of “Ramadan”. Muslims will fast during the daytime and have a meal to break their fast (named “Iftar”) at the setting of the sun. As our event coincides with Ramadan, we are delighted to serve this meal for all ticket holders at the end of the talk. Ticket £3.

Doors will open at 4:00pm. Those who wish to pray may do so at 4:15pm. The talk by our speaker will commence shortly thereafter, at approximately 4:25pm.

This event will be held in the Welfare Centre within the JMIC complex. Click here for venue map and parking info.

While Iftar meal ticket sales have ended, you are welcome to attend the speaker’s presentation part of this event, subject to available venue space.
